In 1912, the prefecture of Corfu consisted of 1 municipality – Municipality of Corfu – and 104 communities. After the Registration of the French in 1917, there were 72 communities. The institution of the communities was legislated in 1914. Since 1940, Corfu was divided in 55 Communities. At the end of the Italian possession, the conquerors abrogated the communities and established the municipalities.

Today, the prefecture of Corfu consists of 13 municipalities and 3 communities (Mathraki, Ericousa and Othoni). The municipalities are:
